The Paralympic Games are an incredible display of sporting achievement. It is the very pinnacle of sport, and we champion those who dedicate their lives to their discipline. But the reality is that most don’t want to aim for a gold medal, they simply want to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.

As each athlete will likely tell you, they all started at a grassroots session. Local community sports groups are vital to ensure that disabled people have opportunities to be active. And this is not about aiming for a podium place, but about being active however and wherever they want to be.

At Activity Alliance we offer organisations support in ensuring they can provide inclusive opportunities for disabled people.

So if you run a local community, sport or activity group, we have produced a series of activity cards that are a perfect place to start when creating accessible opportunities for disabled people.

We know that many people need help and advice on how to create accessible opportunities for disabled people in sport and physical activity.

With 25 games and activities across five different categories there’s plenty of choice for deliverers. The categories include warm up games, fundamental skills, striking and fielding skills, invasion games, and net court, and wall games.

That's why we designed a range of activity cards to help you deliver inclusive, engaging and fun sessions. With the help of these cards you will be able to confidently adapt, modify and progress activities for participants with different abilities and/or specific impairments.

The cards provide activities for all ages and abilities, and can support participants to be physically active and to lead a healthy life.

Releasing the cards, Chloe Studley, Activity Alliance Programmes Manager, said:

"Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity.  These new activity cards are a fantastic new resource that will support deliverers across the UK to include, challenge, and progress all participants by embedding inclusive practices. Taking an inclusive approach is the best way to ensure your activity sessions can be enjoyed by  everyone."
