More disabled children and adults to benefit from Sainsbury's Active Kids for All training
More disabled children and adults will benefit from two fantastic training programmes for teachers and community groups. The Sainsbury's Active Kids for All Inclusive PE and Inclusive Community Training will support workforces at local schools and community groups to learn the better practices needed so more disabled people can enjoy being active for life.
Active Kids for All Inclusive PE Training
The four Home Country disability sport organisations and Sainsbury’s, with support of Paralympics GB and the Youth Sport Trust, have joined forces to develop Active Kids for All Inclusive PE training. Designed to support PE teachers in mainstream schools to include young disabled people within the PE curriculum, it is a free training initiative.
Since the launch of this programme in January 2013, 124 courses have been delivered across the UK. This has helped over 1900 teachers to embed inclusive practice in their planning, delivery and assessment within the curriculum.
Reaching the local communities
To extend the high quality support available for teachers, the English Federation of Disability Sport and sports coach UK, supported by a £1 million investment from Sport England, have established Active Kids for All Inclusive Community Training.
Following its launch, this initiative will provide first step training to support leaders, volunteers, coaches, assistants and parents to improve their confidence in delivering sports based activities to disabled people.
