Revamped IPE workshop showcased at West Midlands schools
Activity Alliance hosted a revamped Inclusive Physical Education (IPE) workshop with seven schools from across the West Midlands in January.

The course was carried out as part of the Gift of the Games programme in partnership with United by 22, a local charity formed to help deliver the wider goals of the Commonwealth Games.
The 3-hour workshop took place in person at a West Midlands school, with a range of participants. Fundamental elements that allowed people to build on their inclusive PE knowledge and practice were at the heart of the course.
One Head of PE present on the day said:
"It allows me to understand how my team can adapt lessons so that everybody is able to take part fully and experience success and satisfaction."
They added that the best part of the day was “planning and trying out an adapted lesson to see what it would look like in a lesson.”
As part of the workshop participants undertook a ‘confidence curve’ to understand how they feel about their inclusive practice. This was then completed again at the end of the workshop. The key inclusion models of STEP (Space, Task, Equipment and People) and AIM (Activity Inclusion Model), and how they can assist them in enhancing best practice, were discussed with tutors. The final part of the workshop saw everyone present put into practice their learning through practical application.
Gift of the Games aims to support schools to further embed inclusive sport and physical activity offerings into their pupils' everyday life. The Bring the Power programme, part of Gift of the Games, aims to widen knowledge, improve access to sport and exercise, boost confidence and resilience in young people to help them acquire new skills.
It works alongside schools to deliver an inclusive sport offer that consists of inclusive sports delivery for pupils with and without SEND and tailored support for school staff to ensure the inclusive practices are embedded within the school for the long-term.
