Bitesize learning modules set to support TAs to deliver inclusive PE
An online course to support Teaching Assistants in school sports has been released as part of the Inclusion 2024 programme.

Designed to support Teaching Assistants (TAs), the course will equip TAs with the confidence to create outstanding PE experiences for every pupil regardless of their abilities.
The short interactive training modules have been written with the help of Teaching Assistants. Each element is designed to empower TAs and can be completed in just 10 minutes. Available on the Activity Alliance Learning Hub it takes just minutes to sign up and start learning.
Victoria Wells, Head of Sport Youth Sport Trust, said:
"We are thrilled to announce the launch of new modules for Teaching Assistants in collaboration with Activity Alliance, as part of the Inclusion 2024 programme funded by the Department for Education.
"With just one in four disabled children saying they take part in sport at school regularly, Teaching Assistants play a vital role in supporting young people to enjoy and thrive in their PE lessons, supporting their learning and development. These short, high-impact modules are designed to empower TAs with the tools and confidence needed to ensure every young person experiences accessible, inclusive, and meaningful opportunities in physical education."
The three topics covered include why inclusive PE is important, your role as a TA and supporting progress through adaptations. Each is supported by a video with interviews from Teaching Assistants discussing the topic.
To access the course visit the Activity Alliance Learning Hub.
Our thanks go to Leeds Beckett University who supported the design of this learning with funding from the Department of Education as part of Inclusion 2024.
The programme is led by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of a consortium of organisations including Activity Alliance, the British Paralympic Association, nasen and Swim England.
Helen Derby, Activity Alliance Strategic Lead - Programmes, said:
"Every child should have the opportunity to take part in fun and inclusive sports and activities. Having teaching staff able and confident enough to deliver that is key. This online course will give Teaching Assistants up and down the country the opportunity to develop, helping their students as they do so.
"Not only is this fantastic training in its own right, but a great grounding for those that then want to go on to develop their knowledge further by signing up to our Inclusive PE eLearning module.
"We know this will make a real difference in PE lessons, and are incredibly grateful to the schools that been involved in the creation of this course."

"It was great to be part of the working group and to give honest feedback of what would be beneficial for teaching assistants when developing this resource. It was nice to be heard and I believe the modules developed will make a difference to the children we support".
