Join a webinar exploring the workforce gap

Activity Alliance is hosting an online event on 24 March to explore how the sport and physical activity sector can improve its recruitment and retention strategies.

Fairness in sport and physical activity for disabled people does not just mean equal opportunities to take part, it applies to the workforce too. We know disabled people are under-represented in the sport and physical activity workforce.

In an hour-long webinar at 11am on 24 March, we will share insight from our workforce gap report and explore how the sport and physical activity sector can improve its recruitment and retention strategies.

Our latest Annual Disability and Activity Survey found that just 17% of disabled people said they ‘see people like me’ working in sport and physical activity. And only 9% of disabled people feel they have the opportunity to become a coach or take a role in delivering sport and physical activity.

Off the back of those concerning figures Activity Alliance commissioned Better Decisions Together to explore the barriers and enablers to disabled people becoming part of the workforce. The ‘Research into the workforce gap - Disabled people in the sport and physical activity workforce' report was based on 25 interviews with people in the sport and physical activity workforce, most of whom were disabled employees, volunteers and employers.

On 24 March, in conversation with partners and disabled people, we will:

  • Look at the key barriers and enablers to disabled people becoming part of the workforce
  • Hear from individuals who champion disabled people’s voices to improve diversity and representation
  • Introduce our new Include to Improve programme led by Activity Alliance and Sport for Confidence.
