Our new strategy in action
With major events, research projects and new e-learning material on the horizon we highlight some things to look out for over the coming months.
It is just a month on from the release of our new strategy ‘We All Belong’. Leaders from across sport, physical activity and health joined together as we called for change to ensure all disabled people feel they belong in sports and activities. As an organisation our mission is to improve opportunities to be active, empowering disabled people to get involved in sport and activities in the way they choose.
A key milestone for the previous five years has been the release of our Annual Disability and Activity Survey. With five years of data to analyse this year we will not be releasing a report in the same way. Instead, we feel it’s right time to delve deeper into the statistics to spot trends and gaps, continuing to provide insightful material on disabled people’s activity levels.
Our research and insight team are conducting secondary analysis to ensure it will continue to shine a light on the realities of trying to be active as a disabled person in England.
Up-to-date and insightful reports are incredibly valuable as we strive to achieve our three ambitions:
- Sports and activities meet disabled people's needs.
- Disabled people influence campaigning, policy and decision making.
- Address inequalities by working with others.
Our Learning Hub launched in 2024, will continue to develop, with exciting new modules coming very soon. The online platform for inclusive training is currently home to our ‘Inclusive Activity Programme’ and ‘delivering an excellent service for disabled customers’ eLearning modules. There is also an introduction to reaching more disabled people through better communications webinar. Watch out for new training in research and evaluation and Get Out Get Active programme learning.
The National Junior Para Athletics Championships and British Junior Para Swimming Championships will once again give young athletes an opportunity to compete at a major event. These competitions are always a highlight in our calendar, and this year is sure to be no different. Details will be released in the coming weeks on how to sign up.
Get Out Get Active continues in five locations across the country thanks to funding from Sport England and London Marathon Foundation. Amber Valley, Black Country, Blackpool, Sunderland and Wiltshire are all running activity sessions and other events that engage the least active disabled and non-disabled people in their communities.
In April we will cheer on a group of runners taking on the London and Manchester Marathons. We are incredibly grateful for those challenging themselves to run 26.2 miles in order to raise money for our cause. If you would like to find out how to support us there is more information on our fundraising page.
Our team of Strategic Partnership Advisors will continue to support local and national work. They work to ensure our partners can be more effective in supporting disabled people to be active. If you would like the support of your regions advisor all details are on our team page.
We were proud to announce our very first ambassadors joining us to tackle inequalities in sport. Eve Roberts, Ben Andrews, Temi Johnson, and Harrie Larrington-Spencer are all passionate advocates of our work and join us to champion change so disabled people can be as active as they want to be.
We are always keen to hear how your organisation is ensuring more disabled children and adults belong in sports and activities. Your stories matter and support others to learn from your ideas. Get in touch with our communications team to tell us your story. Email news@activityalliance.org.uk.
