Special Olympics GB welcomes new members to expanded Athlete Leadership Team
Special Olympics Great Britain (GB) is delighted to welcome seven new members to its Athlete Leadership Team (ALT), which represents the voices of the thousands of people with intellectual (learning) disabilities who are supported by the charity.
With more than 20 applications received from athletes and a competitive interview process, the decision was taken to grow the ALT from 10 to 12 members, who will regularly consult with the Special Olympics GB National Office, bring forward the opinions and thoughts of fellow athletes, and act as ambassadors for the movement.

Taking Aim: Rifle and Pistol Shooting with the Dwarf Sports Association UK
DSAuk made history by hosting the first-ever annual Shooting Training and Tournament as a stand-alone event at the fantastic Aldersley Shooting Centre!
Members aged 10 and above had the exciting opportunity to try their hand at rifle and pistol shooting. After some focused practice, the competition was on — and what a show our members put on!
Massive thanks to Ginny Thrasher, the Olympic Champion from the 2016 Rio Games who joined us to award medals and certificates to our incredible participants.

One Year until 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo
Just 365 days to go until the Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo. In partnership with Ocean Outdoor we marked this milestone with a launch of our fundraising campaign to get our DeaflympicGB athletes to Japan.
We were joined by CEO Chris Ratcliffe, Chairman Nick Brookes and GB Deaf Footballer Lucindha Lawson in Central London. Our campaign will reach across the country with the Ocean Outdoor network of over 11 screens nationwide.
Chris Ratcliffe, CEO UK Deaf Sport and DeaflympicsGB, said:
We are excited about the GB Team competing in the next Deaflympics which take place in Tokyo in November 2025. However, we are mindful of the pressure that our team faces in having to raise a total of £500,000 of funding from voluntary sources. This adds huge pressure on our DeaflympicsGB athletes and further distracts them from their training and preparation to perform at their very best. We hope this fundraising campaign will enable us to support our athletes as best as we can.

This theme underscores the vital role that persons with disabilities, especially amputees and individuals with limb differences, play in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable world. LimbPower is dedicated to achieving these goals through dedicated pathways, initiatives and programmes.

WheelPower announces HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh as new Royal Patron
WheelPower, the national charity for wheelchair sport, based at the world famous Stoke Mandeville Stadium, birthplace of the Paralympic Movement announced that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh has become the charity’s new Royal Patron.
WheelPower supports disabled people to play and enjoy sport and works across the UK to transform the lives of disabled children and adults through movement, activity and sport.
The announcement came as part of a Royal Visit to WheelPower at Stoke Mandeville Stadium by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh where there was an opportunity to see the work of the charity, founded in 1972 by the father of the Paralympics, the late Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann.
