Over 50s making a splash in Oxfordshire
Disabled adults aged over 50 have the opportunity to improve their swimming through an exercise and physical activity programme run by Age UK Oxfordshire.
The project, supported by Age UK’s Inspire & Include initiative, aims to increase the number of older disabled adults regularly participating in sport, and is delivered in partnership with Soll Leisure and Generation Games.
The objective is to support those taking part to improve their swimming and overall confidence in the water, in order to maintain participation after the course.
The project is a great opportunity for swimmers to meet new people, increase physical activity levels and learn about different strokes in the pool.
Each lesson will cost the £2, and following the course there will be opportunities to continue swimming through Soll Leisure’s Active Concessionary scheme at £2.50 per visit.
Head of Generation Games, Alastair Thomas, said:
“The social benefits of exercise cannot be underestimated. For many participants our Age UK Oxfordshire exercise classes become an important meeting place each week, to have fun with friends.
“I would urge anyone to try one of our classes or other activities; not only will you have fun and make friends but you will also reap the physical benefits of being regularly active”
Group swimming lessons will be held at the Park Club on Milton Park and led by an ASA Level 2 qualified Swimming Instructor.
Lessons will start in February 2015, and last for 12 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Each day will consist of two 45 minute sessions taking place from 09:30-11:00.
To ensure that all participants get the most out of each lesson there will be a maximum of four per group with a carer to support in the pool.
