Training is key for an inclusive and knowledgeable workforce
Activity Alliance research shows disabled people do not have the same opportunities to work or volunteer in sport and physical activity. Only 22% of disabled people say they see ‘people like me’ working in roles in the sector.
Not only should disabled people have the same opportunity to work in sport and physical activity, but research tells us that more than eight in 10 disabled customers have taken their business elsewhere after experiencing poor customer care.
Many disabled people are therefore missing out on the benefits being active can bring. Equally organisations are missing out on the numerous benefits that disabled customers can offer as a large proportion of our population.
The new Activity Alliance Learning Hub has brought together a range of key training to help individuals or organisations learn, develop and then use this knowledge to be more inclusive in their own activities.
From PE to inclusive communications the Learning Hub is the go-to place for top training. It will ensure you, and your organisation, are more inclusive for disabled people in sport and physical activity. Training Includes:
Delivering an excellent service for disabled customers
There isn’t only one way to engage disabled people. What really matters is that your processes are fully inclusive and accessible. Especially when it comes to providing good customer service to disabled people. This is where our Delivering an Excellent Service for Disabled Customers eLearning course comes in.
The course can increase workforce confidence and knowledge, especially those who work in leisure and customer-facing roles to engage with and support disabled people.
Inclusive Activity Programme (IAP)
The CIMPSA accredited Inclusive Activity Programme (IAP) is a low-cost development opportunity which will upskill you, your employees, and volunteers on how to make activities fun and inclusive for everyone. It is ideal for the sport and leisure sector, community groups and organisations, disability organisations, and individuals supporting disabled people and people with long-term health conditions.
The Inclusive Activity Programme provides a comprehensive package of learning opportunities. Each designed to support you to make physical activity more inclusive for disabled people.
Find both these course on the Activity Alliance Learning Hub.
As well as the Learning Hub there are other resources available across the Activity Alliance website. These include webinars, research and factsheets.
Get Out Get Active inclusive workforce practices
Activity Alliance teamed up with Haringey Council to conducted research to understand the qualities, behaviours, and attitudes of key activity deliverers and community leaders in Haringey. Using key findings and recommendations from the research, we worked with disabled people to create a new Get Out Get Active resource on inclusive workforce practices.
It highlights ten ways organisations, providing physical activity, can create an inclusive workforce for disabled people and encourage more disabled people into employment.
Find it on the Activity Alliance website.
Expert-led webinar on physical activity workforce
Following on from the release of Activity Alliance hosted a series of webinars exploring some of the key findings. In January an hour-long event saw contributions from AKD Solutions, UK Coaching and Disability Sports Coach.
Ladi Ajayi, Head of the Sport Division at AKD Solutions, chaired the meeting that was attended by almost 150 people.
