IFI accredited CardioWall motivates all gym goers!
If you are looking to boost your inclusive activities, add a spark of excitement and broaden your gym’s appeal, then there is good news. The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) has recently awarded the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) accreditation to the CardioWall©.
CardioWall© is a motivational game wall brought to you by innovative Cornish technology design company Rugged Interactive. With nine interactive lightpods which users hit with their hands, boxing gloves, soft weights or sports balls, the CardioWall© is accessible to everyone. That is from beginners to the fiercely competitive, whether disabled or non-disabled gym goers.
At the Plymouth YMCA, CardioWalls are used by wheelchair users, young people with autism, youth programmes run in conjunction with local schools, and the patients from the Exercise on Referral sent to them by the local health services.
YMCA Gym Manager Neil Talbot said:
“They’ve been a brilliant investment. Since we incorporated the functional fitness area with the CardioWalls we’ve seen our footfall increase by about 120%."
The CardioWall is:
- Versatile – the CardioWall can be used for ball sports practice, circuit training, functional fitness work, fun group activities and for specific courses of physical therapy or cognitive stimulation
- Ruggedised – robust light pods can be hit not only with bare hands but with other accessories suitable to the needs and abilities of the user (e.g. soft weights, boxing gloves, sports balls)
- Adjustable for different user needs – for example, the five central light pads can be isolated to make the wall easy to play for users in wheelchairs
- Encourages participation - Stimulates physical exertion amongst less motivated and engages those who normally opt out
- Responsive – the light pods provide a physical response when pressed, which engages users with autism, learning difficulties or significantly reduced hand strength
- Data capture - User performance details can be captured digitally, making it useful for programmes of physical therapy and rehabilitation
- Social hub - Helps social skills, sharing, team-work / collaboration
You can now find CardioWalls in such diverse environments as Fitness First, Manchester City FC Academy, Plymouth YMCA, specialist disability school Arbour Vale School, The Disabilities Trust (a chain of residential care homes for disabled people with physical impairments), and even the iZone Driver Performance Centre which trains up and coming F1 drivers at Silverstone.
