Get Out Get Active legacy lives on through GOGA in Action

GOGA in Action was created for partners involved in Activity Alliance's Get Out Get Active (GOGA) programme to help showcase their continuing work using the GOGA approach. Through GOGA in Action our partners will continue to champion the core principles of the GOGA programme and share further delivery, impact, and insight to inform the practice of others.

Since 2016, GOGA has continued to strengthen community spirit, increase confidence, and improve the mental health of nearly 160,000 disabled and non-disabled people.

A programme lead by Activity Alliance and made possible by founding funder Spirit of 2012 and additional investment from Sport England and London Marathon Foundation, partners focused on getting some of the UK’s least active people moving. This unique programme aims to increase demand for, and the accessibility of, existing opportunities. That could be in local authorities, sports clubs, or volunteering.

GOGA in Action helps to highlight how the programme continues to influence and support projects and activities within communities. Showing how the programme has changed the lives of those involved. How the GOGA approach brings people together. And how our partners continue to embed the GOGA way into their lives.

Driven by a ‘no fear’ attitude that’s open to change, learning, and doing things differently, GOGA has reached the people that stand to benefit most from being more active. It improves their physical, social, and mental wellbeing, increases their confidence, and gives them the opportunity to connect with others in their communities. GOGA changes the attitudes of individuals and organisations.

Helen Derby, Strategic Lead – Programmes at Activity Alliance said:

“We are excited to see how our partners continue to tackle a range of inequalities that people continue to experience when wanting to be active. We believe GOGA in Action will help partners to continue the legacy of GOGA and encourage them to engage the least inactive people in their communities, in fun and inclusive ways.”

Our current GOGA activities ended in December, but thanks to the local partners and their dedication to sustainability the GOGA way will continue through GOGA in Action. We are in conversations with potential funders to develop and grow the programme. If you would like to help us continue to change lives, then please contact us on programmes@activityalliance.org.uk
