100 up for Special Olympics GB at 2014 European Summer Games
From a Prime Minister’s Downing Street GB Team reception; to winning the historic first gold medal of the 2014 Special Olympics European Games; to our record-breaking talented table tennis twins; a golden hat-trick heroine on the cycling track; and personal best performances being set by team members everywhere; it is hard to quantify the huge success of this brilliant Belgium experience for our 49 GB athletes.
The final GB medal tally shows the GB Team have won a total of 103 medals at the Special Olympics 2014 European Games, that is 41 Gold, 34 Silver and 28 Bronze.
The glorious GB team arrive back into London St Pancras on Eurostar on Monday at 9.57 am.
On a final incredible sporting day of these Games, the Special Olympics GB surged past 100 medals – which was epitomised by the inspirational performances and passion of the gymnastics team who alone collected 46 medals on Friday’s (18 September) judgement day.
The performances, passion and endeavour of Special Olympics GB’s athletes, coaches, families, supporters and friends has hit new heights and has to be seen to be believed! This has been a two week festival of sport, joy and human spirit. Karen Wallin, Special Olympics GB's CEO, said:
