LimbPower Primary and Junior Games return to Stoke Mandeville Stadium

LimbPower is proud to be holding the fantastic Primary and Junior Games event once again at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, birthplace of the Paralympic movement. The weekend will introduce young amputees and young ambulant disabled people to a range of sporting activities in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment. They are being held on Saturday 4 October and Sunday 5 October 2014.

This year, the emphasis will be on introducing children aged between 5-18 years to a wide range of sports, and particularly those that they will encounter at school, as well as the more traditional Paralympic events. New sports included are: rounders, cricket and netball. The aim of this is to help young ambulant disabled children develop their confidence when faced with these activities in the mainstream school environment.

In addition to these the children and young people will also be able to try a wide range of Paralympic sports under the guidance of coaches and mentors from the relevant National Governing Bodies. These will include wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, athletics, swimming, table tennis, archery, football and cycling. The emphasis is on fun while encouraging the children to have a go at sports and socialise with their peers, and we may even spark interest and create a future Paralympian!

Kiera Roche, LimbPower Chief Executive, said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to run this event again and continue to offer the same opportunities to children that we have been offering to adults at the LimbPower Games. The last couple of years have been such great successes, and we’re hoping to reach even more young people and give them the chance to challenge what they think they are capable of. We are also hoping to have a very special and inspirational guest visiting us this year too, which would make this a real wow for the children – more details to follow soon!”.

The Primary and Junior Games will help young amputees to learn new skills, have fun and importantly to discover their potential through sport. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Gemma Trotter from LimbPower on: Gemma@limbpower.com
