Join Aspire at Leisure Industry Week 2014
On Wednesday 1 October Aspire staff and InstructAbility students are attending Leisure Industry Week at Birmingham NEC. They aim to increase the attendance and representation of disabled people at the event. Would you like to join them in promoting disability awareness by attending this event?
Anyone living in London might also be able to travel on the free coach leaving Aspire 7.30am, returning approx. 6.00pm. The Aspire National Training Centre is in the grounds of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex.
Founded in 1989, Leisure Industry Week (LIW) is fully established as the UK's leading exhibition for the leisure industry.
In this diverse and vibrant industry LIW's role is to provide the annual meeting place for leisure professionals from all walks of leisure and to connect you with the latest products, services and innovations the market has to offer. Over 7,000 professionals from gyms, health clubs, hotels, spas, leisure centres, local authorities, theme parks, play centres and more come through the doors at LIW to meet with new and existing suppliers, attend high-level seminars, take part in interactive activities and network with industry colleagues.
LIW takes place over three days in September and October at the Birmingham NEC and covers six core leisure sectors.
Hilary Farmiloe, InstructAbility National Project Manager, will be presenting along with some InstructAbility graduates in Theatre 1 at 12.30 – 1.15pm. She will be accompanied by two InstructAbility graduates, Dan and Adrian, who have spinal injuries and are qualified personal trainers. They will talk about their experiences as customers and fitness professionals.
Matrix has agreed to sponsor the idea. They are providing t-shirts to help raise awareness and have employed an InstructAbility graduate with SCI, Dan Edwards, to work on their stand throughout LIW.
Wheelchair Pull Ups Challenge
Matrix will be holding a ‘Wheelchair Pull Up Challenge’ at 1:30-2.30 pm to support InstructAbility. They have 10 contenders, who are mostly InstructAbility graduates and ex Royal Marine Commando, Joe Townsend taking part.
The event is free to attend. You can register as a visitor at www.liw.co.uk
