Club Matters releases new Disability Inclusion Club Hub
Activity Alliance in partnership with Sport England Club Matters, are excited to release the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub. The online tool aims to support clubs and organisations improve their activity opportunities, so more disabled people can be active at a local level.
The new resource enables sports clubs, community organisations, and the professional workforce to self-assess their offer for disabled people. As part of the assessment, users will understand how inclusive and accessible their current offer is for disabled people and identify areas for improvement.
The tool includes a number of questions, taking approximately 10 minutes to answer, across three key areas: organisation operations, promotion of activities, and workforce. The responses gathered guide users towards a range of relevant resources to help support organisations to make positive changes to ensure their activity opportunities meet the needs of disabled people.
Findings from Activity Alliance’s latest Annual Disability and Activity Survey shows that disabled people are being left out and feel less encouraged to be active as we return to activity after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is despite 8 in 10 wanting to be more active. For those disabled people who have returned and are taking part in activity, their experiences have been less positive and inclusive.
Activity Alliance and Club Matters hope the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub will help clubs and organisations to become more inclusive and accessible for disabled people following the pandemic.
Ray Ashley, Activity Alliance Director of Partnerships and Programmes, said:
"We are delighted to work with Club Matters to unveil the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub to the sport and activity sector. As we all look to recover and reinvent from COVID-19, it is vital that disabled people are at the heart of all plans in sport and activity. To ensure that local opportunities are inclusive and welcoming for all. This new online hub provides extra support for clubs and organisations at the touch of a button."
Rosie Benson, Head of Clubs at Sport England said:
"Sport England’s strategy, Uniting the Movement, focuses on breaking down the barriers that means some groups, like disabled people, are less likely to be active than others. That’s why we’re delighted to launch the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub tool. The tool is designed to help clubs and community organisations check and challenge their offer to ensure that it is inclusive to disabled people - so their experiences of sport are both positive and meaningful, and they are more likely to feel able to take part."
This free tool is quick and easy to use and is accessible to anyone with a Club Matters account (if users don’t currently have an account, they will be directed to create one on entry to the tool).
