Make a difference as a Trustee with the English Federation of Disability Sport

Now is a great time to help champion and deliver a step change in physical activity and sports participation amongst disabled people. London 2012 gave us the springboard and the English Federation of Disability Sport is playing a key role in delivering  a lasting legacy. We are seeking new trustees to lead and grow the national charity to support disabled people to be active for life.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) has responsibility for increasing the opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport and physical activity.  Our vision is that “disabled people are active for life”. As a national partner of Sport England, we work with stakeholder and member organisations to develop opportunities for grass roots participation.  We also raise awareness of the issues that affect disabled people’s engagement in sport and physical activity.

We would like to receive applications from exceptional individuals to complete our team. You do not have to work in sport to apply, but you must share our passion to improve and increase opportunities for all. Enthusiasm for the subject, energy and a genuine desire to make a tangible difference to people’s lives are key attributes for a successful applicant.  We particularly welcome applications from disabled people whose own experience of sport and physical activity can inform our work, or from people working in the wider disability sector.

These are unpaid but fulfilling roles and will involve approximately eight days a year for Board meetings (usually held at SportPark, Loughborough). There will also be an away day and an expectation that Board members will be available for a limited number of key activities throughout the year such as sports events and conferences.

If you believe you have what it takes to be a part of a committed team of Trustees and staff at EFDS, and you would like to help the organisation realise its goals, please send us your current CV and a supporting letter of application. The email addresses for our CEO and Chair are shown below.

Applications received by Monday 2 June will be considered in time for recommendation to members at the Annual General Meeting in July 2014

For those shortlisted, panel interviews will take place during week commencing 16 June.

EFDS is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.  All qualified applicants will receive consideration and not be treated less favourably than another because of race, age, colour, ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

To discuss the roles, please contact Barry Horne, Chief Executive up until Friday 24 May (email: bhorne@efds.co.uk or telephone 01509 227755) or our Chair, Charles Reed (email:  c.reed1@btinternet.com).
