Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education centre receives £200k
Disabled people in Poole will have more opportunities to get involved in sport after an outdoor centre received a £191,886 boost. Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education centre at Hamworthy Park received the funding from Sport England’s Inclusive Sport Fund.
The club is one of 44 projects across England to benefit from more than £8million of National Lottery investment from Sport England to open up more opportunities for disabled people.
Harbour Challenge will be running kayaking, archery and rambling/orienteering sessions for 160 local people with mild and moderate impairments over the next three years. The funding will pay for an adapted safety boat, rambling kit and to staff sessions at a level appropriate.
Fundraising manager Paul Thompson said:
“We are officially launching our new waterside base at the ex-council facility, Hamworthy Outdoor Education Centre, over the weekend of May 17 (for schools) and May 18 (for the public). The disabled adapted RIB will give us the only safety boat of this type in the area, a true community asset. Thank you Sport England.”
