Devon Sports Awards 2014 finalists revealed

The finalists in this year’s Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards have been revealed. In association with Active Devon, they include sportsmen and women, clubs, coaches and volunteers from all four corners of the county. The event will once again be hosted at Sandy Park, the home of LV= Cup winning Premiership rugby team the Exeter Chiefs on Friday 16 May 2014. Categories include the Contribution to Inclusive Sport Award, which highlights those increasing participation for disabled people.

The competition was open to those involved in sport throughout Devon and, unlike similar awards, all the profits will be donated to charity.

This year’s host is BBC Spotlight's Jenny Walrond and the special guest will be medal winning British athlete Kriss Akabusi.

Active Devon is celebrating its 11th anniversary of hosting the awards and has partnered with the Exeter Foundation, a charity closely linked to the Exeter Chiefs, to stage the star-studded ceremony.

Tony Rowe, chairman of the Exeter Foundation, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all that is great about local sport and raise money for good causes at the same time.”

Active Devon Chief Executive Matt Evans said:

“As with last year the judges had a tough task due to the quality of nominations. This is due recognition of those who give their time week in, week out for the good of sport in Devon.”

Tickets for the awards event are now available from the Exeter Foundation on 01392 427427 or email events@sandypark.co.uk.
