Wallingford Accessible Boat Club looking for additional volunteers
The Wallingford Accessible Boat Club (WABC) is aiming to increase its capacity by recruiting more volunteers to train up as crew for its Wheelyboat WOW-one. The increase in the crew will enable more disabled and elderly people to get out on the river during the 2022 season.
John Jenkins MBE, Chair of Trustees for the Wallingford based charity explained:
“We had a great end to the season last year taking over 60 people out on the river in our Wheelyboat, all trips including one or more local disabled persons, and the unique experience shared by many gave so much pleasure, we really want to do more of the same this coming season. However, we have to attract additional help for the superb group of volunteers we already have, so are embarking on a recruitment drive for additional Wheelyboat crews."
Jenkins continued:
“A Wheelyboat crew consists of a complement of a skipper, a crewman and shoreside support all trained to RYA (Royal Yachting Association) standards. We are looking for local people ideally who have some boating experience, enjoy being out on the water, helping others and have a little spare time available. We can train the right people to the necessary standards as needed.
