England to host International Para-Badminton Championships
BADMINTON England confirms their commitment to making the sport truly inclusive by announcing today that it will be running an International Para-Badminton tournament in Loughborough on 25-29 June 2014.
The event will be held on Loughborough Universities campus which offers superb facilities to deliver a first class sporting event.
Player classification will take place over 25 and 26 June followed by three days of competition on 27- 29 June. The international tournament will be open to the six BWF classifications; Wheelchair WH1 & WH2, Standing, SL3, SL4 & SU5 and Short Stature SS6.
For the past five years BADMINTON England has hosted the English leg of the four Nationals Para-Badminton series which has been the pinnacle event on the English Para-Badminton calendar.
In August 2013 BADMINTON England announced the launch of the Para-Badminton circuit which to date has included six locally run events each catering for a minimum of two classifications.
As a consequence of this announcement BADMINTON England regrets to announce the cancellation of the English leg of the four Nations which was due to be held on 30 May- 1 June 2014 in Worcester.
The England Para-Badminton squad produced some brilliant performances at the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships back in November, winning an incredible 11 medals in Dortmund. This international tournament will help to build on that success.
With 248 Para-Badminton players from 38 different countries competing for world titles in Germany, it was an entry that made the 2013 Championships the largest in history.
