Leeds United Kick-Off FA Disability Cup Journey
This coming Sunday will see Leeds United Ability Counts' first team start their journey to St George's Park as part of the FA Disability Cup. It is the second year of The FA's Pilot Cup competition in which every player has an impairment or additional need that has been verified by a medical profession to allow the player to be eligible to play.
It is the first year the West Riding County FA has entered a team in Leeds United and they have high hopes for the team.
The first round game will be played at Garforth Town AFC who have kindly donated their facilities to host the event on Sunday 23rd February (13.30 Kick off) and will see a well-coached Leeds side play fellow newcomers Boro Rangers from Teeside.
The Leeds United squad has a mixture of players from across Leeds and who have come from different backgrounds but who all have a passion for the game and are currently involved in either the Leeds United Ability Counts or Football 4 Me programmes. The players have been training weekly in preparation for their Cup campaign and have recently played a number of warm-up games against other disability teams and mainstream opposition up to ‘match speed’.
More details on the fixture are below and the county FA is asking for the local public to get behind the Leeds United Ability Counts Programme as well as support the team. They hope to overcome the first hurdle on the road to the FA Disability Cup Final to be held at St George’s Park in June.
