Interactive, in partnership with the Greater London Authority’s ‘Inclusive and Active 2’ project, has been shortlisted for the Community Programme of the Year award at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014 on Thursday 8 May.
The project has been described as the “gold standard of disability sport” by Mayor Boris Johnson. "Inclusive and Active 2" has been embraced by over 100 agencies in London and beyond, changing the culture of sport and physical activity and creating over 25,000 new opportunities for disabled people to be active. Organisations ranging from London borough councils and national governing bodies to grassroots community sports clubs and disability charities have signed up to ‘Inclusive and Active 2’. It makes the project the most influential pan-London disability programme at a time when building on the success of the 2012 Paralympic Games is more important than ever.
Interactive is the London delivery partner of the English Federation of Disability Sport. A registered charity is the lead strategic development agency for sport and physical activity for disabled people in London.Their vision is to achieve an active and inclusive capital and ensure disability equality and inclusion are at the heart of grass root sport in London.
All ‘Inclusive and Active 2’ partners are supported to make real and significant changes to the way sport is delivered within their organisations, ensuring disabled people are able to access sport and physical activity opportunities of their choice, at a venue of their choice and at a level of their choice. As well as increasing participation, ‘Inclusive and Active 2’ ensures disabled people are included in all aspects of sport, be it as coaches, volunteers, officials or decision makers.
‘Inclusive and Active 2’ is a London wide strategy co-owned by the Greater London Authority (GLA), NHS London and Interactive. Its vision is active disabled Londoners. It identifies targeted outcomes to increase opportunities for disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity at the level of their choice. The success of the strategy relies on a plethora of organisations across London to adopt the strategy and implement an action plan to achieve the targets relevant to them. ‘Inclusive and Active 2’ is live and available to download.
