Hull Rugby League teams to deliver virtual sessions

Hull Kingston Rovers Community Trust are to join in partnership with Hull FC Foundation to deliver virtual training sessions to participants of both Learning Disability Rugby League teams.

A group of people gathered round for rugby training on a pitch.

There may still be restrictions and uncertainty over when players and teams can gather together again though all coaches involved are determined to deliver to both sets of players virtually. On the back of the participants receiving the Rugby League World Cup 2021 journal and their own rugby ball, kindly put together and distributed by Community Integrated Care and The Rugby Football League, the coaches of both sets of teams are keen to deliver various challenges and exercises to both teams and compete against each other to win spot prizes.

Starting ffrom Thursday 4 March, 6:30pm-7:30pm, sessions will take place once every two weeks and each session will focus on a skill that’s included in the participants' RLWC 2021 journal on that specific week.

During the weekly Tuesday session, the participants of Hull Kingston Rovers Learning Disability Rugby League team (KR LDRL), will be focusing on body weights exercise circuits and we are hopeful that we can introduce some challenges against both sets of players in this joint session.

Liam Waslin, coach of Hull KR LDRL team said:

"It is great to link up with the Hull FC Foundation and deliver this project to our participants virtually. We have added this session on top of our current weekly session every Tuesday so it is another good asset to keeping fit and healthy while staying safe in their own homes. We have also scheduled in a friendly between both teams so this will be a great way for the teams to meet virtually and engage in friendly banter. I am hoping this will be the first of many opportunities to link up with Hull FC Foundation and deliver not just on this project but also all the other projects we also run."

Bradley Sugden, joint-coach of Hull FC LDRL team, said:

“It’s great to link up with the Hull KR Community Trust and deliver this project to our participants virtually. We have added these bi-weekly Thursday sessions on top of our current weekly Tuesday sessions, so it’s another good opportunity for our participants to keep fit and healthy and socially active whilst staying safe in their own homes.
“We have also discussed the possibility of a ‘friendly’ LDRL fixture between both teams, when government guidelines allow, so I think the joint sessions will be a great way for the teams to meet virtually and engage some friendly rivalry.
“Hopefully this will be the first of many opportunities to link up with Hull KR, not just on this project but also on some of the other projects that we both currently deliver.”
