Activity Alliance calls on supporters to join The 2.6 Challenge
Activity Alliance, like many UK charities, has been impacted by the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In response, organisers of the biggest mass participation events across the country have come together to launch a new campaign - The 2.6 Challenge - to help our fundraising during this time and save the UK's charities.
The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April - what should have been the date of the 40th edition of the London Marathon, the world's biggest one day annual fundraising event. In 2019, the event raised £66.4 million for charities.
From Sunday 26 April, we’re asking you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to Activity Alliance on our 2.6 Challenge Just Giving page.
The 2.6 Challenge is open to people of all ages and abilities – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.
The possibilities are endless!
The activity really can be anything you like, so be creative and think outside the box. Here's a few ideas to get you started:
- Hula-hoop for 2.6 minutes
- Shoot 26 boccia balls into a basket or box
- Run or walk 26 laps around your garden
- Dance like no one's watching for 26 minutes

Nick Rusling, Co-Chair of the Mass Participation Sports Organisers group (MSO) and CEO of Human Race, said:
"The 2.6 Challenge can be anything that works for you. You can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes. You could do the same in your home or garden, go up and down the stairs 26 times, juggle for 2.6 minutes, do a 26 minute exercise class or get 26 people on a video call and do a 26 minute workout – anything you like.
"We want people to get active, have fun and raise money to help Save the UK’s Charities by giving money or raising funds for the charity close to your heart."
It is hoped the campaign will raise £67 million for the UK's charities by the end of April - if 2.6 million people fundraise or donate £26, we'll get there.
We hope you'll join the Activity Alliance team for this exciting challenge! Whatever you do, your support during this time will be most welcome. Money raised via The 2.6 Challenge will support our ongoing work to make active lives possible for disabled people.
