Blog: “Being active makes me feel good”
Activity Alliance enables organisations to support disabled people to be active, and stay active for life. This year, we are continuing to share great stories from both sides – how organisations are working to make active lives possible, and the direct impact their work is having on individual disabled people. Today, we hear from young person Alex on what being active with his family means to him.
In our last blog we heard from Heather Fawbert, Chief Executive of children’s charity Fairplay. She told us how the North Derbyshire charity supports over 300 families across the region to be active together. In today’s blog, we hear from 12 year old Alex on what Fairplay means to him.
Hi, I’m Alex and I love photography, trampolining, bike riding and walking my dog.
I spend time with my family watching films, and being on the trampoline in the garden. This means a lot to me as I like doing everyday stuff with my family, especially walking the dog.
I like coming to Fairplay, it’s a place where I can meet my friend and not feel isolated.
There are lots of activities to do at Fairplay. I like to take part in dancing. And I like to go on activity breaks where I can abseil and horse ride. Being active makes me feel tired but also good and healthy.
The things I would change for children like me is – to end discrimination and stop people staring when someone looks, or is acting differently to others.
