Community Dance Artist takes on Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training

A Community Dance Artist in search of training opportunities to develop knowledge and advance her skillset is just another example of the different kinds of people participating in, and benefiting from, Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training.

Amy O’Sullivan, part of the artsNK Dance Team based in Lincolnshire, undertook the training to develop her knowledge and to learn “new styles and techniques for engaging specific participants on both an individual and group basis.”

Amy is one of an increasing number of people, now well over 2,200 individuals nationwide, who have enjoyed the three hour practical workshop, supplemented by online resources.

Prior to undertaking the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, Amy told EFDS what she hoped to achieve:

“I wanted to acquire a range of styles and techniques to enable me to engage specific participants on both an individual and group basis. I wanted extra knowledge to further my teaching career and prospects.”

Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, part of the Active Kids for All scheme, is a creative, informal and informative workshop. It is designed to improve the skills and confidence of those who support disabled people to be more active.

After the workshop, which was organised by Lincolnshire Sport, Amy said that it had added to her understanding of sport and physical activity provision for disabled people:

“I learned plenty of useful inclusive terms, and a whole range of games and activities that enable me now to include dancers of all abilities.”

Amy praised her experience of the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, and encouraged others in her line of work to consider taking part in one of the many planned workshops across the country.

“This excellent workshop gave me fresh and new ideas to incorporate in my sessions. I now have the motivation and confidence to plan and teach more creative sessions for the participants.”
