Athletes set to go in the Parallel Success Championships
On Sunday 24 June 2018 athletes from local clubs and schools across London and the South East of England are competing in the Parallel Success Championships at Newham Athletics Track in Plaistow. Many taking part hope to qualify for the Typhoo National Junior Championships in July.
British Athletics, Typhoo and Activity Alliance have teamed up to support young disabled athletes across England. Every year 1400 disabled athletes in total take part in this particular athletics programme.
Organised by local volunteers, the London and South East Parallel Success Championships will see around 300 athletes compete in a series of track and field events. For the first time RaceRunning will be included as athletes prepare for their inaugural World Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin.
Organiser Coral Nourrice said:
“This is a truly inclusive event for Para-Athletes of all ages, racing alongside some of London’s best mainstream sprinters and Paralympians. Amongst them are Paralympians Richard Chiassaro, Sophie Hahn, Kare Adenegan, Stef Reid, Vanessa Wallace and Sophie Kamlish, plus Invictus Games stars David Henson and Luke Sinnott who will be supporting athletes preparing for Sydney 2018.”
Prince Reid T20/F20 Athlete from Blackheath and Bromley/Croydon AC said:
“I am ready to run and prepared to win; my aim is to improve at this competition."

“We are delighted to be working with Typhoo for a fourth year through our events programme. Year on year athletes and volunteers comment how much they value these events. It’s a pleasure to watch the athletes develop from regional to national champions. Typhoo’s support means we can ensure many more disabled people can reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.”
Parallel Success is the name of the British Athletics Para-athletics programme which aims to identify, develop, prepare and support potential Paralympians towards World Class level.
