Tom Hamer opens BPSIM18 with European record
Tom Hamer kicked off the opening day of the British Para-Swimming International Meet 2018 (BPSIM) in style with a new European record in the Men’s S14 100m Freestyle.
Hamer, who trains at the British Para-Swimming National Performance Centre in Manchester, he posted a time of 53.53 and lowered his own continental record and total of 998 points
The first heats session of the event which also doubles up as the British leg of the World Para Swimming World Series saw a British record for Zara Mullooly also in the 100m Freestyle.
The S10 swimmer clocked a time of 1:03.01 and a total of 828 points over two laps of the Ponds Forge pool.
In the Women’s MC 100m Breaststroke heats Northampton’s Maisie Summers-Newton led the way with a score of 986 points and a time of 1:35.38, she will be the favourite going into the World Series final on day one of the meet.
Here time put’s inside the consideration time for selection for this summer’s World Para Swimming European Championships in Dublin.
Scott Quin took command of the Men’s MC 100m Breaststroke heats after touching home in a time of 1:06.83 he scored a total of 977 points and will return to contend the medals this evening.
Quin’s heats swim time puts him inside the consideration time for Dublin 2018 selection.
The Women’s MC 100m Freestyle Hannah Russel reached the wall in a time of 1:01.99 and 839 points, another British para-swimmer inside the Dublin 2018 European’s Consideration time.
