Teams ready for the FA Disability Cup finals this weekend
The FA Disability Cup takes place this weekend at St. Georges’ Park with five national finals in five different impairment groups – deaf, blind, cerebral palsy, powerchair and amputee – commencing at the national football centre on Saturday 6 May.
To mark it, a special film has been made featuring a cast list of rising stars from the disability football world. Sam Bull, powerchair footballer, Brandon Coleman, blind footballer, cerebral palsy footballer Jordan Twiss and Danielle Evans, a deaf footballer all feature and explain how their involvement in their chosen discipline has helped them in other areas of their life.
“The power of football is unstoppable” said Bull. “When I started playing powerchair football, the boost I had to my mental state and my confidence was massive, and my competitive side, which was probably always there, really came out.”
“There’s a lot of people out there that don’t know the pathway for disability football and its just case of getting that awareness out there,” said Evans, who plays for Everton FC deaf team and twice voted Disability Player of the Year.
In addition, The FA has released its first ever a British Sign Language (BSL) film in association with the English Federation of Disability in Sport (EFDS) ahead of the finals which you can watch on the FA website here.
