National Disability Sports Organisations head to Naidex 2017
From Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 March, Naidex 2017 – UK’s leading event for independent living takes place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. The National Disability Sports Organisations (NDSOs) come together to support the event and talk to visitors about accessible sport and activity opportunities.
Naidex is Europe’s biggest consumer, professional and trade show dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and lifestyle for disabled people. From 28-30 March 2017, Naidex will be taking over the Birmingham NEC for three days, bringing together over 250 exhibitors and more than 12,000 visitors to showcase the latest technology, insight, products and services from across the healthcare, social-care, leisure and mobility industries.
There are eight NDSOs as recognised by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS), who provide opportunities for people with specific impairments to take part in sport and physical activity.
They are British Blind Sport, Cerebral Palsy Sport, Dwarf Sports Association UK, LimbPower, Mencap Sport, Special Olympics Great Britain, UK Deaf Sport and WheelPower.
For many disabled people, the NDSOs are a great starting point to getting involved in sport and physical activity.
However research shows that most disabled people are not as active as they would like to be. According to Sport England’s Active People Survey, four out of five disabled people take little or no exercise. But that is not because disabled people do not want to be active. The EFDS Lifestyle Report published in 2013, found that seven in ten disabled people want to increase their physical activity.
The NDSOs are coming together at Naidex 2017 to promote accessible sport and physical activities for disabled people at all levels, and talk to visitors about the benefits of being active and leading a healthy lifestyle. They'll be armed with lots of helpful information about the support, advice and opportunities available for people with specific impairments who are looking to be more active. Naidex Sport Zone
With a dedicated Sport Zone featuring a live demo arena, visitors have an inclusive and exciting three days ahead of them. With the leading names in sport for disabled people demonstrating the very latest progressions in the industry, encouraging involvement, product testing, and some friendly sportsmanship, Naidex Sport is set to be awash with activity.
The NDSOs will line up alongside other leading sports organisations from around the country in the Naidex Sport Zone. They are delighted that this year's show will offer visitors the opportunity to try a range of accessible sports and activities on the day.
