England secure Semi Final place with West Indies win
The England Blind Cricket team beat West Indies by six wickets to secure their place in the semi finals of the 2017 Blind Cricket Twenty20 World Cup in India.
Batting first West Indies reached an impressive 232/4 from their 20 overs. Ed Hossell took a caught and bowled and a run out, with Dan Field and Matt Page also taking run outs.
In reply, England lost Matt Dean early but Ed Hossell blasted a rapid 64 and Justin Hollingsworth 47. When Hollingsworth fell England still needed 50 from the last 4.2 overs, but England’s man of the tournament, Peter Blueitt, again stepped up. After Nathan Foy fell for a duck, Blueitt combined with Matt Page to see England home with five balls to spare. Blueitt and Page’s 50 run partnership was off just 19 balls.
Blueitt’s 74 not out was his seventh half century in nine games. Page contributed 15 not out. England’s win was their fifth in succession and although they were certain of their semi final place earlier in the innings, the victory keeps up their momentum going into the latter stages of the tournament.
Reaching the semi finals in the first World Cup with ten nations in competition, is a terrific achievement for the England squad. It keeps up England’s record of finishing in the top four in every Blind Cricket World Cup. The previous ones were in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2012 and 2014.
