Sainsbury's Active Kids for All attends Kidz to Adultz Up North 2016
Representatives from the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) headed north on 17 November to promote the Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All Inclusive Community Training and Inclusive PE Training Programmes at Disabled Living’s annual Kidz to Adultz up North exhibition held at EventCity in Manchester.
The event was Disabled Living’s biggest to date attracting over 3,900 parents, carers, students and professionals from across the North of England and parts of Scotland who support disabled people.
Equipped with leaflets, case studies and programme literature, the team from EFDS set up their stand in prime position ready for when the exhibition opened its doors and were soon busy answering questions about both programmes, inclusive physical activity and relevant local opportunities.
One of those was Wheels Extreme founder Neil. He explained his interest in using the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, which costs a maximum of £10 per person, to make his extreme sports activities more inclusive.
Another was Harry, a care worker from Cheshire. He told us how he would like to use the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training to better support him and his colleagues to be able to delivery physical activities to all the children that they work with.
In attendance on behalf of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All team at EFDS was Rhian McCarroll, Project Support Officer. She said:
“The Kidz to Adultz up North exhibition was a great event, providing us with a brilliant platform to extend our reach and promote the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community and Inclusive PE Training programmes. Throughout the day we were able to meet a wide array of individuals, tell them about the work of the EFDS and share our knowledge and passion for making more disabled people active.”
Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, part of the Active Kids for All scheme, is a creative, informal and informative workshop. It is designed to improve the skills and confidence of those who support disabled people to be more active and to date has provided low cost training to over 6,000 individuals who support disabled people in the community.
Inclusive PE Training provides free training and resources to support teachers, trainee teachers and other school staff across the UK.
Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All attends a variety of conferences and events throughout the year. Chloe Studley, Active Kids for All Manager, explained why:
“Attendance at conferences allows us to connect with parents and professionals that have critical roles in supporting young disabled people in everyday life. Regardless of ability or impairment, we believe that every young person should have access to an active lifestyle. So the opportunity to inform parents and professionals at events such as these plays an important role in making this happen.”
Disability Living’s next event is Kidz to Adultz in the Middle, taking place in Coventry in the West Midlands on Thursday 16 March 2017.
