On track for 9th annual LimbPower Games
LimbPower are on track for a great weekend of sport and exercise for amputees and people with limb impairments, at 9th annual LimbPower Games, 21-22 May 2016 at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
The LimbPower Games is designed to guide and support new amputees and individuals with limb impairments who may be new to sport and exercise, on how to take part and the physical, psychological and social benefits of being active.
Stoke Mandeville Stadium will host the 9th annual LimbPower Games on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May. This event is the highlight of the year for many amputees looking to discover and progress in physical activity and sport.
The LimbPower Games is the first time that many of the participants have the opportunity to see and try for themselves, many sports available to them as amputees or living with a limb impiarment. Over the years the LimbPower Games has helped hundreds of amputees and individuals with limb impairments to gain confidence, improve mobility and find a great new activity. The Games have even been responsible for starting some on the road to the Paralympics! 83 per cent of past participants to our events have said that they have gone on to take up a sport.
Among the sports on offer this year are: Athletics (track & field), cycling, wheelchair rugby, archery, tennis, badminton, swimming, shooting, basketball, cricket, sitting volleyball, football, golf, agility balance and co-ordination session and a strength and conditioning session – so there is something to suit everyone!
Thanks to the generous support of the Blatchford Group and Stewart’s Law and LimbPower’s fundraising efforts throughout the year, the LimbPower Games is available to participants for a modest registration fee only.
Helen Clark, Head of Marketing of Blatchford Group said:
“Blatchford is pleased to continue its support of the LimbPower Games. We share a passion for helping people to restore their quality of life and achieve their goals. Through our association with Limbpower, we hope to help them reach as many people as possible.”
Kiera Roche, LimbPower’s Founder and Chief Executive said:
“This is what it is all about, introducing amputees to the people and organisations who offer an amazing range of sports and activities that can really make a difference to their lives. Whether it’s just for fun, or with a view to competition, the LimbPower Games enables everyone to set and meet their own challenges, and forge friendships that will last a lifetime.”
The Games support LimbPower's on-going work to increase the number of sporting opportunities available for amputees and those living with limb loss in the UK.
