LimbPower looks forward to BAPO conference 2016

From Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March 2016, the BAPO (British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists) annual conference takes place at Ricoh Arena in Coventry. LimbPower, the national charity for amputees and people with limb impairments in physical activity and sport will be exhibiting at the event. To engage with delegates and promote our new series of resources designed to support more people to take part in sport and exercise at all levels.

LimbPower, the national charity that supports people with limb impairments to participate in sport and physical activity is delighted to be supporting the event and will be available at stand 46 in the conference exhibitor area.

LimbPower is looking forward to engaging with BAPO members to promote our range of useful resources and information to support amputees and people with limb impairments to be more active.

Engaging in sport and physical activity can be a daunting prospect for many people living with limb loss or limb impairments. Particularly those who may be recovering from illness or injury. LimbPower has created a series of resources and fact sheets to support those wanting to be more active and take part in physical activity. The fact sheets cover key topics such as why exercise is important, how to get started being active and how activities can be adapted to be inclusive.

Kiera Roche, Chief Executive of LimbPower, said:

“Accessing physical activity as a child with a disability is hard because there are many barriers in the way, but the opportunities are there if the barriers can be removed. Accessing physical activity and sport as a newly disabled adult is more difficult because the opportunities to take part as beginner are less readily available.

“LimbPower believe that working with prosthetists, orthotists and physiotherapists at the artificial limb centres is the key to getting newly disabled people thinking about their general health and fitness. BAPO is a great place to start this campaign.”

These resources support LimbPower’s organisational mission of supporting more amputees and people with limb impairments to engage in regular and sustained sports participation. They aim to put each amputee and limb impaired person in touch with the right sport or leisure activity for their needs and ability.

LimbPower resources and fact sheets are all available to download on www.limbpower.com, you can find them in the resources section on the website.
