Date announced for 2016 National Visually Impaired Youth Football Tournament

British Blind Sport - the national charity for visually impaired people in sport, has announced the 2016 National Visually Impaired Youth Football Tournament and Development Day will take place on Saturday 18 June.

British Blind Sport is pleased to work in partnership with the Football Association (FA) and the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC), to host the National Football Tournament for young people with visual impairments.

Lauren Impey, Participation Delivery Officer of British Blind Sport said:

“As a result of the support from both the FA and RNC, British Blind Sport has been able to change the format of this years’ event. It will now feature two tournaments which follow the IBSA and Partially Sighted Football league rules and regulations. Developmental training will be led by FA coaches with an expertise in coaching players with visual impairments, and information on how players can continue playing football after the event (locally and competitively)”.

"Football is a remarkable sport loved worldwide and The FA is committed to ensuring that everybody, whatever their level of ability, should be given the opportunity to participate. We are delighted to be working in partnership with British Blind Sport to increase the number of opportunities for blind and partially sighted individuals to take part in impairment specific formats of the game that are designed to meet their individual needs.”


The upcoming British Blind Sport National Visually Impaired Football Tournament and Development Day will be a great opportunity for new and current players. To experience the thrill of blind and partially sighted football at a purpose built facility, under the watchful eye of expert FA qualified coaches from within the blind and partially sighted formats of the game.

The state-of-the-art sports centre is also home to the England Blind Football team and last year hosted the IBSA Blind Football European Championships.
