Presenting DSC Community Clubs and Graham Dobson
Disability Sports Coach (DSC) has released a new video to promote their fantastic work. DSC Community Clubs are fun, accessible clubs. They provide Paralympic and multi-sports for disabled people aged 11 and over. The project comprises of 11 Community Clubs in 11 London Boroughs funded by Sport England's Inclusive Fund in 2014.
Building upon the interest in disability sports following the London Paralympics, our Community Clubs will provide 10,000 people over the age of 11 with structured sport and physical activity by 2017. The clubs run by coaches specialising in disability sports and will encourage all disabled people, regardless of their fitness level or sporting prowess, the chance to take part in regular sporting activity.
Peter Ackred, Disability Sports Coach CEO, says:
“People have a multitude of facilities open to them to take part in sporting and physical activity, but this is not the case for the majority of disabled people due to the lack of disability sports provision. Our Community Club programme is great for disabled people in London, as they now have more opportunities to take part in a variety of sports and enjoy the benefits from being more active and healthy.”
Sport England Director of Insight, Lisa O’Keefe, said:
“We are delighted to help Disability Sports Coach provide more opportunities for disabled people to give sport a go. Record numbers of disabled people now play sport and it’s thanks to clubs like this that we can continue to improve opportunities and make a real difference in communities.”
