NDCS coach bursary scheme now open
The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) coach bursary scheme is now open for applications. The scheme supports young deaf people to gain sports coaching qualifications and encourage them to lead sports activities for other deaf children and young people.
The NDCS is the leading charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. They believe that with the right support all children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing can enjoy the same opportunities as non-disabled children.
The coach bursary scheme looks to empower young deaf people and support them to get involved in volunteering, coaching and sports leadership.
Who can apply?
The bursary is available to young people across the UK, priority will be given to applications from:
- People aged 16-25
- People who have a hearing impairment
- People who have British Sign Language skills (level 2 or above)
- Have experience of working with young deaf people
- Can provide reasoning about how gaining the qualificiation will support more deaf people to participate in sport
How does it work?
Each bursary will support an applicant to complete a level 1 or 2 coaching qualification from a recognised National Governing Body of sport. NDCS will pay up to 90% of the cost of the qualification, the rest will be funded by the applicant.
Successful applicants will be asked to agree to:
- Complete the full qualification
- Tell NDCS about their experience on the course
- Tell NDCS how they have used their new coaching skills to support deaf children and young people
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 2 December 2015.
