Juniors excited for LimbPower Games at Stoke Mandeville Stadium

This Saturday (10 October) LimbPower hosts its annual Junior Games at the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, Stoke Mandeville Stadium. Over 40 youngsters have registered for the event and are looking forward to taking part in a range of sports and activities.

The LimbPower Junior Games is a fantastic event for young amputees and ambulant disabled children that offers them a fun, friendly and supportive environment to try out new sports and activities. The Games provide a great opportunity for children to develop their motor skills, build confidence, and meet lots of new people.

This year LimbPower is working with a number of National Governing Bodies of sport to deliver coaching to participants at the Games. The sports available at the Games are badminton, handcycling, sitting volleyball, table tennis, track and field athletics, tennis and wheelchair basketball.

Talking about the Junior Games, the mother of a previous participant said:

“The Junior Games is such a confidence booster for Anna.  She’s made friends and learned sports she would never have tried without it.  It’s even inspired her to join an athletics club.”

In 2014, LimbPower was awarded National Disability Sports Organisation status, as they play a vital role in developing sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled people. The Junior Games support LimbPower's on-going work to increase the number of sporting opportunities available for amputees and people with limb impairments in the UK.

Kiera Roche, Chief Executive of LimbPower said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to run this event again and continue to offer the same opportunities to young people that we have been offering to adults at the LimbPower Games.”

Andy Brittles, National Sports Development Officer said:

“I’m really excited to be a part of this flagship LimbPower event.  Being able to reach out children and young people and nurture in them a love of sport that will hopefully last a lifetime is a real privilege.”

The LimbPower Junior Games take place on Saturday 10 October, at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Guttmann Road, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, HP21 9PP.
