Pownall Hall School Dads choose EFDS for their Coast to Coast ride
Ten ordinary 'dads' will be cycling the Way of the Roses on 10 and 11 October. The Dads involved all have children attending Wilmslow's Pownall Hall School in Cheshire. We are proud to learn they have chosen the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) as their charity to fundraise for.
The Way of the Roses lies entirely within the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire, crossing the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Wolds in the north of England, passing through the historic cities of Lancaster and York and scenic towns and villages including Settle, Pateley Bridge and Ripon.
At 170 miles (270 km) long, the route is designed for the whole range of cyclists, from families to cycling club riders. Although a challenge with some hard climbs—the highest point being over 1,312 feet (400 m) the route is steadily increasing in popularity.
The route is named for The Wars of the Roses, a fifteenth-century war between the English dynastic families Lancaster and York.
Day one they will set off from Morecambe and cycle the hilly 75 miles over to Ripon. On day two they will leave Ripon and cycle the remaining 95 miles to Bridlington.
Pownall Hall is set within large and attractive grounds which are used by all the children on a daily basis. The historic hall presides over the other buildings providing a traditional view to a modern, forward thinking school. For girls and boys, from 2 years to 11 years, Pownall Hall School aims to give each child an excellent start in life.
The Dad riders are...
Jon Hunt, Frank Durkin, Gary Broady, Mark Bradbury, Steve Lowdnes, Nick Garvin, Nick White, Steve McConville and Adam Eckersley. David Goulbourn and Mark Wilson will be their drivers!
