Staffordshire physio exercise project awarded for going above and beyond
Members of staff from Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust, the UK’s biggest integrated health and social care community provider, have been honoured for going above and beyond at the organisation’s annual staff awards evening. They include a physiotherapist-led project, which offers sporting and gym based alternative for children that received the physiotherapy service.
Health and social care workers, including district nurses, physiotherapists, social care assessors as well staff from the Trust’s community hospitals attended an awards ceremony at Staffordshire County Showground on Friday 13 March.
The awards, which are formerly known as the Celebrating Excellence Awards, celebrate the achievements of hard-working teams and individuals within the organisation, which provides community health and social care to the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) along with Stafford Borough Council and Cannock Chase Leisure Centre were delighted to be involved in the Award winning project involving paediatric physiotherapists. They all worked in partnership with Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust on a pilot gym project.
The project involved the Community Paediatric Physiotherapist team working alongside sport development officers to offer a sporting and gym based alternative for children that received the physiotherapy service. The basic gym routines and sporting activities assisted the child’s rehabilitation and development. The project came to light after a similar project had been run in Hull with rewarding outcomes.
In November 2014 a six week pilot project was conducted in Cannock with positive responses from children, parents and physios. A similar pilot project has been rolled out in Stafford targeting twelve new children.
It was confirmed that the project, was nominated for the final three positions out of 250 for the NHS Celebrating Excellent Award 2015 and picked up the prize on the night for the Working In Partnership category.
This award is presented to a team or individual that has exemplified partnership working and the values of the Trust and wider NHS by working across boundaries to improve services for our service users and/or their families.
