Want to become a Mencap Young Ambassador?

In March, national charity Mencap is looking for people aged 16-25 with a learning disability who would like to help support their work. Do you want to become a Young Ambassador or do you know someone who does?

Mencap's Young Ambassadors programme is a brilliant way for young people with a learning disability to build their skills, grow in confidence and become a role model for other people with a learning disability.

Young Ambassadors volunteer their time with Mencap for six months and they are looking for people to join us who are based in Manchester, Leeds or London. The deadline for registering interest is Friday 20 March.

Mencap want Young Ambassadors to shape the way they work, and to be their spokespeople to the rest of the country. Mencap’s aim is to be inclusive, positive and challenging in everything we do. Their work with the Young Ambassadors is a good example of this.

Eve Jackson, Mencap Volunteering Projects officer said:

"Everyone should have an equal, fair chance to get involved. This year Mencap will be working with a group of Young Ambassadors with profound and multiple learning disabilities."

Mencap aims to be positive, showing that everyone has talents and something unique to contribute, whether in politics and public life or in socialising and having fun.

Some of the activities Young Ambassadors have been involved include:

  • Speaking at Parliamentary events about their experiences
  • Taking part in club nights and even DJing!
  • Raising awareness about learning disability issues among the general public
  • Gaining work experience to build new skills.

Young Ambassador Zoe co-hosted Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions with David Gray alongside Jo Whiley.

Aaron spoke at the launch of the Hear My Voice campaign in the Palace of Westminster, supporting Vijay, Louise and others to take part in the Lord Mayor’s parade, and having a laugh with Laetitia and Michael on the set during the making of Mencap's Christmas video.

If you want to become a Mencap Young Ambassador let them know by completing this form.
