EFDS and NDSOs look forward to Sports Fest North East

On Thursday 5 March the British Paralympic Association (BPA) is bringing Sports Fest to the North East, and the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and National Disability Sports Organisations (NDSOs) are looking forward to coming together to support the event in Durham. 

Sports Fest Durham is a free multi-sport event that gives disabled people the opportunity to try out loads of different Paralympic sports, find out how to get involved sport and physical activity locally and even meet some of Paralympic medal winners. With one day to go over 450 people have registered to attend the free, have a go event. 

On Thursday Paralympian and Commonwealth Games medallist Jade Jones will line up alongside Triple Paralympic champion Stephen Miller and wheelchair fencing star Gemma Collis for Sports Fest North East, which will take place at The Graham Sports Centre at Durham University.

EFDS work in partnership with eight NDSOs, who provide opportunities for people with specific impairments to take part in sport and physical activity, as well as offering advice and support. Sports Fest is a great event for disabled people to learn more about the NDSOs and find out how they can get involved impairment specific sports and activities.

The eight National Disability Sports Organisations are British Blind Sport, Cerebral Palsy Sport, Dwarf Sports Association UK, LimbPower, Mencap Sport, Special Olympics Great Britain, UK Deaf Sport and WheelPower.

Aiming to capture the enthusiasm and excitement shown by the British public during the London 2012 Paralympic Games and the subsequent record-breaking achievements of British Paralympians in Sochi. Sports Fest has a track record of success with more than 2,500 people across the country attending an event since 2012. The event in Durham will be the fifth Sports Fest event in the series and also marks the first time that the event has come to the region.

In addition to trying out a wide range of Paralympic sports, visitors to Sports Fest can also come along to meet the medallists sessions, where they can put their questions to athletes, have their photos taken and collect autographs.

Sports Fest North East will take place at Durham University, The Graham Sports Centre, Maiden Castle, Durham on Thursday 5 March and the event will be open from 10:00am - 5:00pm.
