Inviting disabled people to back EFDS's Charter and join in #MyActivityAsk
On Tuesday 24 February, the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) will begin asking for those who can influence change, to commit their support to the charity’s Charter for Change. This sets out three main changes that disabled people say they need to be active for life.
To push these messages out loud and clear, we are calling for disabled people to back the Charter and record #MyActivityAsk. Tell us in your favourite interactive way the change that you, as a disabled person, would like to see to make your life more active.
The national charity, dedicated to disabled people in sport and physical activity throughout England, is unveiling their Charter for Change at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 24 February. As disabled people are half as likely to be active as non-disabled people, EFDS believes many changes are needed and our research has helped us to identify the main areas of concern.
Disabled people should have every opportunity to be as active as non-disabled people. But, there are many barriers which prevent disabled people from accessing opportunities in sport and exercise. This can include attitudes, transport, and funding equipment or perhaps the information is not accessible to read.
We would like your help in telling more people what you need to make your life more active. By submitting a picture, short video or even some words for change, we can promote your personal messages.
How to submit:
- Choose one thing you want to see changed most within sport and physical activity. (E.g. Is this in your local area, for people with your particular impairment, or for disabled people everywhere?)
- Write it down so it’s clear to you, practise taking a picture or recording it
- If you want to take a photo or video, you can hold up a sign saying #MyActivityAsk
- Use your phone, webcam or other device to get involved
- Videos can be no longer than 30 seconds. You can also upload a video to your youtube/vimeo account
- You can send it in many ways. Tweet us using the hashtag #MyActivityAsk or post it on to our Facebook page. Email smarl@efds.co.uk. If emailing, include your name, age, location and link to your message. Please write My Activity Ask as the email subject
We hope disabled people use the opportunity to promote their hopes for sport and physical activity. Submissions should arrive to us no later than Tuesday 24 February 2015. EFDS will choose a selection for the promotion and actively share them through the charity channels.
